What is the right attire for a Face to Face interview. While Suits might be preferred in colder climates like UK and USA. Would suits for interview really make sense during summer in Indian Metros?.

Saare, wear something comfortable.. But by comfortable, I don't mean cut banian and Lungi :-) - However, I wold love to create a shock factor by walking into Interview room like that . But that is just me I would suggest a solid color shirt with tie. I think wearing a suit would be a overkill. Probably after your first interview you will get a look and feel of how others dress. Best of Luck - Wear your confidence.

How you dress for an interview also depends on the position you are being interviewed for. IMO, for a junior/entry level position, one can go with or without a tie. For mid-level position, with tie, and suit being optional. For senior levels, with a suit. While Suits might be preferred in colder climates like UK and USA. It should not matter in IT, as most of the offices are temp controlled. Most people do not wear suits while they drive/travel even in colder climates, they wear them just before entering the office building. PS: This post is wrt men.

Very good topic! In my experience, it helps to ask the HR manager who arranges the interiew for the attire at the workplace. If its business casuals then I would go with a shirt and a tie. If its strict business wear then a suit will help. But if the environment is very casual which includes jeans and T. Shirt then I would skip the tie and just go in with a formal shirt. It also depends on the position that you are being interviewed for.

interesting topic. It also depends on if you want to get through the interview or not For women, in india, its mostly chudidhars and even sarees are allowed for some positions. Note to self : talking about sarees and positions sound vulgar.

Are you all kidding? Can you really go for an IT interview in chudidar even if it is entry level. Yah.. you can wear chudidar once you pass interview and get used to work environment but to attend the interview itself?

Yah.. you can wear chudidar once you pass interview and get used to work environment but to attend the interview itself? I did see few folks outside a company called R.R. Donnelly dressed up in chudidhars for interview. I believe that was for a BPO position. Chennai is still conservative and anything beyond Sarees or Chudidhars will take some more time . I have only worn suits on 3 occasions (in 10 years) during my previous job abroad. So, wearing suits (unless someone is asking me to be CEO of their company ) is a overkill.

Over here in India, Salwar is the accepted attire for interviews and jobs. Saree can be a bit traditional - may be a cotton saree can work. Western wears are usually not very acceptable yet here.

I may have to attend interview in MNC for some senior role. So, I believe I am good with salwar right? Even with salwar, I know for sure the color and style matter. Any tips on this?

Wear Pastel/grey colors than bright colors. Kurti/leggings would be a good option too. Slacks/dress shirt would be another option.
These are for ladies.
