Offlate there's been a lot of talk about porting being a common practice amongst people who have been waiting in the queue for their green cards, especially in the EB3 (Employment based) category. EB porting is a process where a person who has previously applied in a lower category, applies again a higher category but uses the date applied in the previous category to speed up his approval chances.
This process is being widely debated but has benefited a LOT of EB3 filers who have suffered due to retrogression and other delays.
My opinion: I'm definitely in support of porting as long as the reason to port is valid and genuine. I would also hope that spillovers are matched more evenly and used thoroughly so categories advance at a much more consistent rate. The much needed Immigration overhaul needs to happen sooner than later to clean up the mess that is bleeding into other areas of immigration.
What are your thoughts?
