Hydroponic: Growing plants without soil Yup yup yup....looks like this is going to be the norm soon in coming days. See the article below to believe it. www.cnn.com/video/#/video/interna....bk.c.cnn?hpt=C2Given the population and high rise building in metros, it seems there is absolutely no soil left in there. People were trying to grow some plants on the roof tops but it was all just a hobby, small scale and not in a large scale, as in farming as the buildings were not constrcted to hold the weight of soil which is what used in traditional farming. There was also an increasing demand of food with growing population which made scientists to think how to use those unused high rise building roof tops to convert them to productive areas and also let people connect with nature and know where the food comes from. In an effort to overcome such limitations alternative methods of growing plants gained importance and hydroponic proved to be one. All the nutrients required for plant are supplied from water. Since there is no soil is needed, the weight is less and most high rise buildings are qualified for such farming. The world largest hydroponic farm is in Beijing according to the above article. What is your opinion on this? Is it going to be another form of GM food? Had there been any researches done so far for possible effect of consuming such products?
