I am currently working for a firm where the notice period is 2 months. Its' been only a month since I joined. Want to know if the notice period still applies to the probation period (3 months probation). There's no buyout option and nothing has been mentioned about the notice period during probation.

Since you have mentioned probation period, I assume it's a sort of govt job. The rules are strict(for whatever reason!) in Indian government sector job. Check carefully before leaving. Give them proper resignation letter as well. Sorry, I don't know anything beyond this.

I guess there is no option but to give 2 months notice. I see that most companies now are OK with these kind of notice periods as 2/3 month notice period are very common.

yes, 2-3 months is common. How would anyone be interested to work after resigning from the company is beyond me. It's a botheration for both the employee and company. Like the 2 week notice period in US. Hand it over, say bye and part as friends.
