I make close to 100K here You should at least get 15 Lakhs at the minimum based on 100K/3 * 45 (1/3 of your salary of what you get in USA). If the places are like BLR, then I believe you should get around 20L for a start.

11L is totally unacceptable! You could tell them straightaway that you cannot even talk about it unless the offer is close to 20.

Friends, I am literally shaking with fear of survival in that crazy high raised cost of living in India. All we have is a house, that's it. Absolutely no back up from in lwas or parents. We have to survive just on our salary. Can I do it?
Wish my husband was more money oriented from beginning. I told him many times but he never understood what I was trying to convince.

I think surviving in India on one salary is easier than it is in the US. Also, with the savings made in the US, it should be a good cushion to help you with the settling and other school expenses. After that, make your money (savings) work for you with some smart investments. Use somebody like RRK to help you with that if you are not financially savvy like me.

Look at the Plus. Having a house is a huge boon. You save round 50-75 thousand right there. For kids schooling, it would be anywhere between 50 to 75,000 / year. I believe it would work up to 40,000 for 1st standard for our kid in 2011-2012 (including dresses). 11 Lakhs is a pretty good salary in India to live a above average lifestyle but definitely that's not the salary for IT person as a Team Leader .

Yes, even I feel that 11L by itself is pretty good to lead a comfy life. Dont worry.
Becoming money-minded is not a big thing - if you have had a happy life so far, your husband has done a great job. Though, it sounds very cliched - money cant buy those happy days. Don't have any regrets, dear.

Wish my husband was more money oriented from beginning. I told him many times but he never understood what I was trying to convince. Most husbands are like that only . I am sure the monies would have been on good causes. It's bound to come back to you soon.

So how are you all (Celebi, Tara and MO) planning to search for jobs in India? Are you going to take your interviews here and get an offer letter before moving back to India or are you planning on doing it after you land in India? I would like to hear about your search strategies! Thanks.

I have not started with circulating my resume yet. I have been bitten due to non-preparation. During the start of my career here, I thought that I can circulate my resume and then prep for my interview. Suddenly got an interview scheduled from Amazon. Lost the job due to poor prep on my part. From that time, I first revise and prep myself with basic stuff before even starting with marketing.

Finally there seems to be some momentum on my Resume.
Got a call from someone in thoughtworks.com. He is supposed to float my Resume with his colleagues and get back to me soon. I have reached to someone in Wipro through my ex-colleague. Let's see.
Any idea about thoughtworks?.
