Hi, I am member Spurthi, a lady of Indian origin. Came to US as a young bride. Got blessed with wonderful kids, and was also blessed with wonderful excess weight around. I have been a very good sportsperson in my school and college days. Some day I would blog about those days and the accomplishments. About a year and half back, thought enough is enough! For the sake of those good old sports days when I could run/jump and play to my joy, I took up marathon weight loss program. With steady determination, continuous hard work and overcoming enormous frustrating moments, I have lost 40lbs of weight in a span of 1 year. Looking back it was a great journey with plenty of challenges. There were some strategic choices I made that made the weight loss program an interesting one. Having reached the healthy BMI (Body Mass Index) and being 4 sizes down, I again feel like a young girl of those college days. Now I have started learning Bharatnatyam dance, something I had not imagined even in my wildest dream that I would be doing. Here, I am inviting you all men and women to form a fitness group. The motto of this group would be to help each other, push and pull each other to reach the secret target you always had to loose those extra pounds or just feel more fit and healthy about themselves. The biggest obstacle in not being able to do work out / take healthy approach is not time or money, but the Motivation. It is exactly this aspect we will try to address here with a group of like minded people with similar goal of improving their fitness levels. Please come forward and join the group. Let us try and challenge our mind / body and soul to reach the target we always wanted to. If not now, then when else? I have some plans that I will share soon, and would also look forward for many more new ideas to keep this group moving and active. Come on ladies and gentle man, please march forward to join the Spurthi Fitness Group!!! Note - Please remember, there is no fee associated with this group!!! It is free....free...and free....! Spurthi - Life is to live to fullest!

Hello all, I am Shilpa from bangalore. Happily married and working with a software company. I have been overweight since my teenage. Since then weight has been an issue for me and however determined I was to lose weight I could never take any action about it. Two months back i discovered that i have already reached 84kgs. This time i could just not ignore it. :-) I enrolled in one of the fitness seminar/group here in bangalore and things just started working for me. Within 1.5 month i have lost 5kgs. And surprisingly it doesnt look like a struggle to me. I am enjoying workouts, keeping myself away from junk foods and i also ate ghee now and then ( restricted to 1 small spoon though :-)) . I am present to one of my life's biggest discovery that when i was working in the space of my weight all alone, things dint move for me at all. Now when i was part of group (5 people) where every member is commited for his/her own success and also for everyone else in the group , there was an enormous shift. That's the reason why i am here in this group as well. Lets be in sync and keep sharing how we are doing.
Cheers, Shilpa

Hi members, My name is Malvika. I am also from India but currently living in Kuwait. I am really glad about this initiative from Spurthi and am very excited about being a member here... Well, I have a little success story too to share I used to be in good shape. Was a software engineer in India, and slowly starting putting on after 25, thanks to no exercise and sitting job !! Yeah very slowly....was still in good shape though . After my pregnancy and my daughter's birth(via c-section) in Aug 2009, I was totally overwhelmed being a new mum..After a period of 4 months, I saw my pics and comparison from my older pics gave me a shock I slowly began an at home work out schedule, which was very naive in nature, hence couldnt get much benefit out of it. I bought a treadmill and started walking/ running sessions and side by side kept on researching exercises on google. I had started loosing fat slowly. I continued my regimen and in Jan 2011, I bought an online fitness program. I religiously worked out at home, and now am proud to say that I have lost 9-10 kgs since my baby was born. 9 kgs might not be a big figure to most of you, but for my short frame, it means a lot. At present, my weight is lighter than even what it was before marriage !!! But, my fitness goals continue - I want to loose some more inches from my mommy belly. I am motivated for this and am looking for more motivation from you guys !!!!

Malvika, Welcome aboard!!!! Very glad to see you here. Please do share your thoughts and experiences. I have got 24 months old and I know what amount of activity they demand from moms. I feel we got to be fit just to be able to run around them sometimes! Please do pull as many friends as possible. Let this activity be a ripple effect.
