I agree that in recent years, Dhoni has been the best captain. Plus lady luck seems to be on his side as he seems to achieve the rare wins, prev. teams used to fail in achieving. Everyone says this team is the best but to be fair, I feel this team has several weaknesses but their confidence which is inherited by their captain seems to cover up such weaknesses.
After WC victory, Dhoni seemed to push all the attention to SRT and that seemed like his true character of shunning max. limelight only on him and instead spreading to others. He is unlike the Bengal Tiger Sourav in that category. But usually victories and successes hide all the blemishes. I truly hope we don't get to see blemishes of Dhoni and his team in near future.

Dhoni has a lot of +++ and thinks ahead. He sent Yuvraj up the order in the initial games to bring him back to form. Yuvraj was scratchy in that innings. I was amongst the one who criticized the move but it won appreciation from the likes of Ian Chappell who said during that time that Dhoni was amongst the better captains in this World Cup. I guess Ian Chappell knows a little better than me about Cricket . Apart from Piyush and Sreesanth in this team, everyone seems to be mentally strong and have a great self-belief. That's also helping the team and Dhoni. Most of them might have missed this, Captain Cool was furious with Yuvraj during the finals while running between the wickets (46.3). Dhoni is human after all m.cricbuzz.com/cricket-match/id/2215/page/4

Dhoni is definitely one of the best captains. Though I would like to give due credit to Kapil Dev as he managed whatever resources efficiently and effectively. Dhoni had a bunch of extremely talented individuals whom he had to just utilize in the best possible way. Kapil wasn't as lucky. Both of them, were smart, thinking captains who took the pressure on themselves to push the team through. The way Kapil rotated his bowlers in the finals and put the onus on himself to lift the game is very similar to what Dhoni did in the finals.

Kapil won it against the likes of Sir Viv, Clive Lloyd, Andy Roberts, Desmond Haynes, Gordon Greenidge, Holding, Marshall, Garner, Dujon. The only mediocre player (If I can call so was Larry Gomes). Add to the fact that the "Little Master" played a very little part in the 1983 tournament . To me there's no beating the innings of 175 Not Out in a World Cup when the chips were down. Dhoni is a great captain no doubt but in my book he comes second after Kapil.

I think Dhoni is the best captain of India just because of greater expectations from a billion people. Kapil did not have so much pressure when he was the captain. If India had lost to Zimbabwe in 1983, no one would have said or cared about the result. Imagine Dhoni losing to Ireland...they would have been shredded to pieces by the media and the fans.
Also as a team , this the best Indian team till now. Earlier we may have great individual players but as a team , this is the best.

Yes, Dhoni is the BEST. Unlike the past Captain, he looks so macho. I immediately fell for him ;D

I am glad that I didn't see him when he had long hair. My husband told me the same that he had a looong hair when I was eying for him while watching cricket. Short is good and bald is better as per some theories about baldness

IPLrocks, its a nice post. It covers most of the things I wanted to say. He sent Yuvraj up the order in the initial games to bring him back to form. Yuvraj was scratchy in that innings. Yes, it was a great move and was the right time to bring back confidence in Yuvraj. It is nice see that Dhoni gave more importance to Yuvi's talent than his form. And fortunately, as most of Dhoni's decisions, it worked. I do not like to compare Kapil and Dhoni. A lot has changed from when Kapil was a captain. Kapil was great, but when compared to recent captains, Dhoni is the best. Gary is also the best coach we had in the recent times. Never heard so many players praising any other coach. With increase in revenue, we have a better support staff who also prepared the team mentally to handle pressure. I also like the phrases Dhoni uses in his talks, in the lines of, "Doing the basics right", "You only control your efforts, but not the results" (this one is straight from Bhagavath Geetha), etc., With the cool captain, talented team, great coach, and splendid support staff, all coming together, India was "Destined" to win the world cup.

Is Dhoni the best captain? I don't know. He has led since 2008. If he leads for few more years, we will know whether he will have Kapil's win % of 56%. But he is definitely good looking captain in recent years (except Dravid may be) .. What do the ladies think ?
